Background
Education: Universität des Saarlandes / Universität Hamburg, Federal Republic of Germany. BA equivalent with major in German Philology and minor in Sociology.
Translation: Freelance translator (1977–1980, Tokyo, Japan) as well as in-house translator (1980–1992 with Syntax Co. Ltd., Tokyo, Japan). Since 1992 translation services as G & W Communications from Missouri, Virginia, and Washington.
As co-founder and long-time manager of Syntax Co. Ltd., a Tokyo-based company for European-language translation and production work, I had to supervise and assess outside translators as well as coordinate multi-language projects. I am therefore familiar with all the various aspects of translation work.
Production: Co-founder and managing director of Creative Typographics in Tokyo, Japan (1983–1990), a European-language photo typesetting and design company, and directly involved in the setting of type and the production of camera-ready artwork. I supervised the production of foreign-language versions of newsletters, sales brochures, corporate profiles and annual reports. I had to plan and execute the changeover from dedicated photo typesetting equipment to desktop publishing. Since 1992, I have been offering desktop publishing services primarily for multi-language projects.
